Rental Terms and Conditions

  1. The renter is current and registered student enrolled at Cañada College
  2. Rental agreement valid for current term only and maybe not be extended to another term
  3. Rentals are due on or before the last day of the current term.
  4. Rentals must be returned in clean, unmarked and fully re-useable condition (no writing, highlighting or notes etc.) on or before the rental due date.
  5. A valid credit card is required to secure rentals at the time of transaction until the end of term.Non-returned rentals will be billed to the securing credit card*.
  6. Academic hold will be placed on non-approved or pending charges on non-returned rentals and will impact registration, grades, transcripts etc. Failure to pay or make payment arrangements within College deadlines may result in delayed/denied access to enrollment/registration.
  7. The Bookstore and/or College District reserves the right to deduct delinquent charges owed to the bookstore from any financial aid and/or scholarship award prior to disbursement.
  8. The Cañada College Bookstore will charge new price for damaged or deemed unusable rentals by the Bookstore Staff.
  9. Rental items lost, stolen or damaged will be responsibility of the renter. Insurance denials, police reports etc. is not acceptable and will be billed at new price plus any late fees, regardless of who is at fault.
  10. Rented out items with defects maybe exchanged within 24hours with the same item.
  11. Rentals not returned by the due date will be billed at new price plus late fees and taxes.
  12. Proof of registration AND PHOTO ID is required at the time of rental. Non-registered students will automatically be charged the NEW RETAIL price plus any applicable late fees/charges.
  13. No replacements accepted. The original rented copy must be returned at the end of the rental period. Rentals of multiple copies of same text or rental of text for non-enrolled courses violates rental terms
  14. Outstanding rental charges may be sent to collections.
  15. The Cañada Bookstore reserves the right to limit the number of rentals for each term. Retail price of rentals exceeding $500.00 is subject to enrollment audits or registration verification.
  16. Rentals may be converted to sale within the rental term thus resulting in transfer of ownership to the buyer/renter upon completion of the sale. Rentals will remain as the property of Cañada College even when in renter’s possession.
  17. Payments for overdue rental must be made at the bookstore.
  18. Reminders and notices will be sent directly to “my.smccd.edu” email account. Financial holds can be viewed to Websmart.
  19. By participating in rental program, the renter agrees to the terms and conditions listed above and authorizes the Canada Bookstore to charge securing credit card for the full replacement price of the rentals items if not returned to the bookstore by the rental due date.

 

* **In the event that securing credit card is compromised, or a new/replacement card is issued, the renter may contact the Cañada College Bookstore to change securing card on file. Securing card must have expiration of date at least  30days past rental term due date. The Cañada Bookstore may make multiple attempts to seek authorization on securing card for non-returned rentals and is not responsible for any other charges imposed  by card  issuing institution***

INCLUSIVE ACCESS & RENT-TO-OWN RENTALS

** Restricted rentals will automatically be converted to purchase at THE DISCOUNTED PURCHASE PRICE (same as rental charge) after add/drop period of over provided the renter:

  • Has not dropped the course
  • Opted out of participating on the Inclusive Access program.

In the event the renter has dropped course and received refund for Inclusive Access or Opted out of the program, the rental will automatically be converted to purchases AT FULL RETAIL PRICE (no discounts). Charge for the difference will be posted to renters school account.
